Soap Making Process

The delicate balance between art and science.....

Scandia Spa takes great pride in the soaps that we create. Every batch of handmade soap is held to the strictest standards of quality control. From the ingredients, to the suppliers, you can be assured that you will be receiving the finest soap available.

The first step is the selection of the finest ingredients. We have several requirements from our suppliers: First and foremost - The supplier cannot engage in any type of animal testing or animal cruelty. Second, the ingredients have to be pure and un-adulterated (un-adulterated means that it has not been diluted).. Scandia Spa is proud to conduct business with wonderful suppliers who provide us with the highest quality essential oil, rich fragrances, and high quality base oils. We test each of these raw materials for suitability to our high standards. Once they pass our rigorous testing, the materials are added to our line of ingredients.

Why is our soap is different?

Soap making is a delicate blend of art and science. This process does not end after the soap is made. It then has to go through a rigorous testing phase where willing human volunteers try out our soaps - People with different skin types, different tastes in scents, and different personalities. We then compile all of their comments, and decide based on this testing phase whether or not the soap will go to market.

Bathing is something many of us take for granted. But it shouldn't be. Your skin is the largest organ on your body, and just like food, what we put in (on it) is crucial to the well being and balance of your skin. Scandia Spa uses food grade ingredients - so you know you are getting a high end product. If you haven't tried handmade natural soap - consider what you are missing. Gentle cleansing, moisturizing, fragrant, and pleasing to look at. On the other hand, if you are using commercial grade soap, it is important to understand that this is usually not "real" soap. Commercial soaps use cheap detergents and petroleum products in their mass productions - They also artificially remove the soaps natural glycerine so that they can package this in a more expensive product.

One great benefit of natural handmade soap is in its natural ability to moisturizing the skins. Natural soap contains glycerine. Glycerin is very moisturizing to the skin and helps the skin retain its natural moisture. Many commercial soaps remove the glycerin and offer it for sale in a higher end product. We feel that glycerin should be left in the soap - And so, our soaps are rich in skin moisturizing glycerin.

Many users of handmade soap find that they no longer need to use lotion on their skin. Natural soap is gentle, not harsh.

Not only is our soap wonderful on your skin, its beautiful to look at, smells wonderful, and should be a part of your daily skin regime.
